My earliest Minns is William Benjamin Minns born 1859, but his father is an unknown Minns who was missing in the 1841 census. They're from Greyhound Lane, Heigham, Norwich. So there's not much I can add. I'll be back in Norwich next week but no time to research.

As a side note my grandfather who married a Minns emigrated to Australia, saved somebody off the Sidney Bridge but came back to England. We now have links from the Wales side of the family.

Also I've just been searching through the site that covers Norfolk/Norwich pubs at www.norfolkpubs.co.uk
I see they list Minns later as the landlords for the Jolly Hatter:
ROBERT MINNS
age 41, a carpenter in 1851	by * 1850
JAMES MINNS	17.06.1884
MARIA MINNS	27.11.1888
And for the Cock Inn
EDWARD MINNS	1836
JOHN WOOLNER	1840 - 1845
ROBERT MINNS according to White	1845
They have a nice 1901 photograph of the Inn. You probably have all this from you comment but just in case.
Good Luck

Hello Mark

My Minns family is from Norfolk (as are many!) and I'm hoping someone can help with my brick wall.

The earliest record I have is Edward Minns born about 1808 in Trowse Newton. He married Susan Winter in Lakenham in 1828. Their son, another Edward married Mary Newbegin Bacon & the family emigrated to Australia.

Edward the elder died in the house - the 'Jolly Hatter' pub in Norwich actually - of Robert Minns, born Royden, distant from Trowse, in 1811.

The 'Cock Inn' pub in Lakenham is listed as being owned by both an Edward & Robert Minns at different but close times, however the 1841 census shows this Edward to be considerably older than 'my' Edward. Further, the IGI lists the father of Robert to be William Minns.

Confusion!

Good luck with the site & greetings from Sydney Australia.
